STEM Education & Mentorship
Hands-on STEM learning, mentorship and teacher training that spark curiosity in rural students and inspire them toward STEM careers.

The Akili STEMarts Academy
Our flagship initiative is the Akili STEMarts Academy, a STEAM learning hub that gives students and teachers from underserved rural schools access to STEAM education resources, AI tools and robotics.
Its Akili STEM Lab serves schools around Kisumu West subcounty that lack ICT infrastructure. For many students, it is their first meaningful interaction with computers and digital learning tools.
In 2025, the lab was further equipped with computers, STEM kits and furniture, and solar panels installed through the EDP A2E Access Fund now power the campus around the clock.

Skills for a technology-driven world
Five ways we reach students and teachers
STEM Camps
Holiday camps with interactive workshops, robotics challenges, coding projects and science experiments, connected to life skills such as HIV/AIDS awareness and climate action.
Camps themed “Engineering a Water-Secure Future”, where teams designed water kiosks, smart pumps and irrigation systems, plus a four-week STEM and life-skills camp.
STEM Clubs in Schools
Clubs in partner schools, led by teachers we train, that combine coding, robotics and AI with life skills and climate-smart projects. Surveys at the start and end of each cycle track students’ progress.
Several schools set up their own STEM clubs after our teacher trainings.
STEM Career Talks & Mentorship
Students meet STEM role models, university students and professionals, and learn about subject combinations and career pathways at the critical stage of senior school.
Students choosing their senior school subjects and future careers.
Annual STEM Innovations & Competitions
Each year, students take on a themed challenge, receive mentorship from industry experts, present prototypes and compete for awards.
The Climate Solutions Challenge 2025: Engineering a Water-Secure Future.
STEAM Teacher Capacity Building
Training for rural teachers in digital skills, AI, coding, robotics, project-based learning and gender-responsive teaching, so they can bring STEAM into their classrooms.
Eight training sessions reached 326 teachers across Kisumu, Siaya and Bungoma counties, with partners including Africa Maths Initiative and Futures Infinite.

Increased agency and interest in STEM subjects among the girls and boys in our program.
