Why it matters

Removing the barriers to learning

Education remains one of the most powerful pathways out of poverty, yet many families in rural communities struggle to afford school fees and basic learning materials.

We provide scholarships, material and financial support to underprivileged children in rural schools, so they can attend school regularly and thrive academically, with equal opportunities for every student.

By meeting basic needs, we reduce distractions, boost students’ confidence and create a positive learning environment, ultimately improving educational outcomes.

How the program works

Five ways we keep children learning

01

Scholarships

High school scholarships let deserving students continue secondary education without financial constraints. College scholarships follow, prioritizing students we supported through high school, so their progress continues.

In 2025

80 students supported in high school and college. 13 earned a B grade or better in KCSE, and 15 young women received college scholarships.

02

Uniforms & Sanitary Pads

We partner with local public and community schools to provide quality uniforms, shoes, undergarments and sanitary pads, so students can attend with dignity and focus on learning.

In 2025

1,092 full uniform kits through our partnership with Tailored for Education, plus 2,000 uniforms from our Sare Designs Workshop, and 5,722 packets of sanitary pads.

03

Parent Contribution Fund

During distributions, parents make a modest contribution that funds improvements at their children’s schools, building shared responsibility and community ownership.

In 2025

Parents raised KES 372,550 for whiteboards, textbooks, sanitation, a water tank, Nyangulu Secondary School’s first computer lab, and a kitchen garden feeding over 200 students at Oyiengo JSS.

04

Bicycles

Bicycles for disadvantaged girls and boys who travel long distances to school, improving attendance and preventing dropouts caused by transport challenges.

Who it helps

Students in remote rural areas with long journeys to school.

05

Mentorship & Academic Support

Scholarship students take part in mentorship, a wellness retreat, and an Academic Clinic with one-on-one coaching and peer-led study workshops. Health education, including HIV/AIDS awareness, is part of our school outreach.

In 2025

With Mercury Phoenix Trust UK, health and life skills education reached 3,011 young people across Kisumu and Siaya counties.
